23 March 2005
Sorry for the extended silence — been busy with school-work and with work-work. Though the date keeps slipping, I'm still elbow-deep in the development of Folderblog 3. I'll keep you posted.
19 January 2005
Naturally, the release date for folderblog 3 has been pushed back some — but fear not: it's coming. And with more features than you can shake a stick at.
21 December 2004
Folderbloggers, Zach Robin has answered your prayers: an easy-install RSS plug-in for folderblog. Stay tuned, by the way, for folderblog 3.0, featuring cleaned up code and all kinds of bells-and-whistles — while keeping it small and simple, of course. Target release: early/mid January.
29 November 2004
Check out fotobuzz for free flickr-style annotation — fully compatible with folderblog. And users of photoblogs.org: be sure to add folderblog as a keyword in your profile.
21 November 2004
Be sure to check out the folderblog wiki. It's just getting started, but if you have any tips, tricks, or bug reports, feel free to add them. Also: posted folderblog 2.02, which fixes a minor bug when sorting by date (thanks, Scott and Mike).
22 October 2004
Finally, the release of folderblog 2.0 final. For users of the preview releases, you'll only need to update your folderblog.php file. For new or 1.x users, enjoy categories, thumb generation, comment moderation, sort-by-date, and more — not to mention some snazzy alternate templates. Start your folderblog today!

From the creator of folderblog, a daily-updated tally of the U.S. electoral vote and other politically motivated link buttons. Use them on your site, use them on your folderblog.
8 October 2004
folderblog 2.0 PR 2. Several important bug fixes and the ability to change the language for date displays (in template_settings.php). Look for 2.0 final next week, as well as alternate templates and more thorough documentation.
29 September 2004
folderblog 2.0 is here — almost. I've released what I'll call the folderblog 2.0 preview release. It is a fully functional version of folderblog that boasts major compatibility updates and long-awaited features such as categories and true sorting-by-date, all in a 21kb package. The one caveat is that I wasn't able to give the code a final once-over, create alternate templates, or update the documentation in any meaningful way. There will be a 2.0 final release, but don't hesitate to try it out now — there won't be any major changes. If you're a previous folderblog user, you'll need to make some changes to your template, so read the release notes on the discussion page.
24 September 2004
Chris of 114th.net will be presenting his photography at the photobloggers 2 event at the Apple Store in SoHo, and I'll be supplementing his presentation with a brief discussion of folderblog. If you're near NYC, check it out this Thursday at 6pm.
7 September 2004
Sorry for the silence of late. I'm busy with a thousand things, but will definitely have a new release by the end of the month. Feature requests? Bug reports? Tell me about them.
20 August 2004
Gaston has pointed me to a free PHP webhost that runs folderblog just fine. The loading is fast and there are no banner ads, so definitely check it out if your current host doesn't support PHP.
6 August 2004
I plan to offer several alternates templates for your folderblog with the next major release. While I've been having fun cooking up a few of my own, if anyone out there wants to share their templates, email them as attachments or URLs to templates@tetto.org. If, on the other hand, you're just interested in showing off your template (or your photos!), get your folderblog featured on the right-hand bar of the site. I'd love to see what you've done.
Speaking of templates, by the way, Chris of 114th.net has gotten monthly archives working for his folderblog with some simple tweaks and template trickery — it's quite nice, definitely check it out.
29 July 2004
Posted folderblog 1.1, which is a cumulative fix of all the bugs since 1.0, most notably including a major update to the random thumbs function — there will no longer be duplicates/overlaps between the random thumbnails and currently displayed ones.
20 July 2004
Folderblog 1.0 release. Adds a web interface for doing your captioning, deleting comments, as well as generating thumbnails on the fly. Fixes sorting and other major bugs. It will require some tweaking of your templates, so head over to the discussion page to read the release notes.
9 July 2004
Release this weekend. Sorry for the delay.
3 July 2004
I'm back, and will be getting back to work on folderblog as soon as I get settled in. As it turns out, sorting the files alphabetically never actually worked (thanks, Wufei), but I've already caught the bug and it will be fixed in the next release. Look also for a web interface for captioning as well as automatic thumbnail generation (much thanks to phnk) in the next version later this week.
22 June 2004
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the 1.0 release before I leave for vacation tomorrow, but have gotten the 0.99d release out the door. It fixes a bug or three, and adds a couple of nice new features such as email notification when you recieve a comment. Because I won't be around to work out any unforseen bugs, I've left up the download for version 0.99b. I also finally got around to (loosely) documenting the template tags, so go to town with your design. For the curious, the remaining to-do list is image categorization, a web interface for updating the site, and an export feature to save static copies of your site. If you have any comments or feature requests, feel free to leave a comment on the discussion page. See you July 4 weekend —
20 June 2004
I've made a slight update to version 0.99b, which squashes a few bugs as well as enabling random images; with this version, I have finally updated the documentation — though it is by no means complete, it should now be much more helpful in getting your folderblog up and running.
19 June 2004
I just added the random archive image bit, and continued general cleaning up. Once I get together the web interface for image captioning and add (directory-based) categorization this weekend, the folderblog script will have all the functionality of my MySQL-powered personal site. Look for the 1.0 release by Monday.
17 June 2004
I've released beta 0.99 (getting close to that one-point-oh release). This release reworks the directory loading script entirely — it's a tad less efficient now, but the speed difference is negligible (~0.01s) even with 2000 photos indexed. This allows image sorting (alphabetically) and paves the way for links/thumbnails to random images as well as photo count (i.e. "Photo 8 of 64"). folderblog should also now run on all versions of PHP4.
15 June 2004
I've thrown together a far more customizable release that address most of the feature requests addressed before. It's ballooned up to six PHP files (but still only 15k) — four of them are the (customizable) templates, though; I'll allow the option of wrapping them into the main folderblog.php for a later install.
Update 16 June: The current release only works in PHP 4.3.0+; I plan to expand compatibility to all PHP4+ versions with the next release.
10 June 2004
Folderblog is now in open beta. Click here to download the beta and get started.
