What is folderblog?
Folderblog is a free PHP script that automatically displays the images placed in a given directory, no database needed. It can be used as a blog or gallery — and anything in between.

Though the project has been sort of de facto abandoned for quite some time (as you may have guessed) I wanted to do the responsible thing and say so (I know, two years two late. But still). So, I hereby dedicate folderblog to the public domain. Do what you like with it—it'd be neat to see the folderblog goals achieved with 2008 code-standards (reduce file-system hits by caching or using a flatfile DB, fix the templating system to kill the eval(), add some neat jQuery...). Sorry I let everything around here go completely ignored for so long. The community has been great. Thanks!

While working on some completely unrelated stuff on the server, I accidentally killed a whole bunch of files for the folderblog site. I'm away right now through the holiday, so I can't restore it — but I'll bring the site back online from the last backup as soon as I get home.

Update, Dec 7: I've been busier than I expected and have let the site slide. I am out of town again but should repost the site sometime the week of December 18. In the meantime, the latest version is available for download here.

IMPORTANT: Due to a critical security vulnerability, all users of Folderblog 3 should install this patch, which should replace your current fb.php file (keeping in mind you may have renamed it). The latest version of folderblog also addresses this bug, and is available via the download page.

Many apologies for what, I'm sure, looks like abandonment of the project. I've been up-to-my-neck busy with other things since school started up again and haven't found the time to even respond to emails or glance over the forum. I have been thinking about folderblog, though, and have come up with some big-change ideas that I'll get to work on as soon as the semester wraps up in mid-December. Rest-assured, my absence is a temporary one. I'll try to respond to some of the forum threads over the holiday weekend. Sorry again, guys —

Back and trying to catch up on as many threads as I can on the forum — a collective thanks to all the community-members who've been offering answers to support questions. A small handful of bugs were discovered in my absence, so expect a release this weekend to address them.

I leave today for Acadia National Park by way of Massachusetts. In the meantime, consult the wiki and forum for folderblog support — the community is amazing when it comes to helping out folderbloggers in need. See you August 15.

Thanks to Zach's awesome donation, folderblog is now reachable via folderblog.com, .net, or the preferred folderblog.org. Release-wise, the latest updates bring us to folderblog 3 beta 15, a version that not only paves the way for entirely clean URLs, but should also finally run on PHP-as-CGI servers.

Sorry about the lack of updates — it was a holiday weekend here in the states, and I spent some time taking the reins of photoblogring (which you should all sign up for forthwith) from Cameron. I'm back on track, though, so expect regular releases and forum activity throughout the week.

Thanks to the bug-spotting vigilance of the community, the folderblog 3 beta has been through a handful of releases that bring it to beta 07. Suggestions for the final release are still welcome, however, and the categories system is majorly on the table for discussion. Let me know what you think.

16 June 2005
On Tuesday night, I released the folderblog 3 beta and rolled over to the new site. Download it, see what's new, and discuss the update on the new forum page.

6 June 2005
It's about six months late, but look for the folderblog 3 beta (and a completely redesigned folderblog site) by week's end.

22 April 2005
It's still coming, fear not. Worst case scenario: school ends May 13th. If it's still not done then, at least I'll be homefree for round-the-clock development.
