Intallation Problems...(back to index)I just installed Folderblog on the server but I can't get access to the fb.php/post area to setup the program... I change the $use_alt_url = 1 as some recommended in other posts, and made wrote this to access the post area: http://www.shyrla.com/gallery/fb.php?p=post/ but all I get is this:
folderblog error
No image files found in shyrla.com/gallery/photos/. Please upload files or confirm directory location and permissions.
I'm quite new at this programing stuff, so please bear with me. I'm using Dreamhost as the domain host and they seem to have the latest stuff on their servers . So far I was able to install wordpress without any problems. But this folderblog is keeping me in check. Under the setting file I tried different combinations of the url but no luck: $photo_directory = "shyrla.com/gallery/photos/";
My permissions are set to 775 in the indicated folders, do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Have you tried to set a 777 permission on that folder?

Yes, I have and the problem is the same... :-(

Mmm, have you put at least one picture in the "photos" folder?

I changed permissions, and carefully checked all the steps but no luck. From what I read so far, this could be something to do with the fact that Dreamhost servers are running PHP as CGI or something like that. But I could not find a solution or work around to that so far...

I changed permissions, too. I put one picture in the "photos" folder. I reinstall and install it again, but no luck.
At least I install it on a server of a good friend an became the same error... :-(
On my server is PHP 4.3.10 and I downloadet Fotoblog 3

I found the problem ... sorry, my english is bad ... I'm a german. I named at first the folder for my fotoblog "gallery". And I try to run this fotoblog. But it won't work.
I became this error:
No image files found in shyrla.com/gallery/photos/. Please upload files or confirm directory location and permissions.
At last I rename my folder "gallery" in "folderblog" and now it works. Look here: http://www.annefusselchen.de/folderblog/fb.php/post
The secret is: Name the folder for your fotoblog only "folderblog"
Greetings Anne

I tried that but I still get the same problem. Does anyone here know anything about the PHP as CGI issue? I still think this could be the problem but I have no idea how to solve it.
Thanks

Folderblog should not have any trouble relating to the directory name.
You should be using a relative URL for the $photo_directory (i.e. just "photos/").
You seem to have moved your folderblog install — do you have a link to where it is currently located so I can give it a lookover?

I thought the same, before I had gallery, but I changed it to folderblog just in case and I updated the settings to match the new name. I kept the subdirectory structure the way it was recomended on this site, I also set: $use_alt_url = 1; // use alternate URLs (for use with .htaccess or PHP-as-CGI servers) and then tried to use http://www.shyrla.com/folderblog/fb.php?p=post/ but no luck. I still get: folderblog error
No image files found in shyrla.com/photoblog/photos/. Please upload files or confirm directory location and permissions.
Any ideas?
the latest location should be: http://www.shyrla.com/folderblog/photos/

Angel, what is your $photos_directory variable? Just "photos/"?

Im having this same issue at http://www.webshareserver.com/folderblog/fb.php
uploaded script, changed all permissions to 777 (for now) and have 5 photos in the photos directory.
I get 'folderblog error
No image files found in photos/. Please upload files or confirm directory location and permissions.'
if i go to this folder, there are images there.. everything is permissioned to 777. php is not running as cgi, all directories are the install default and all 3 (thumbs, comments, photos) are created... so whats next ?

OK, I discovered the problem, im posting this in hopes that it might help someone. The $file_extension was listed as '.jpg' and needed to be '.JPG' on the host im using. seems to be working. enjoy!

I keep getting the same error, I even tried KC's suggestion and changed the $file_extension to JPG, but I get the same error.
Donald: The Photos directory I have is the following:
$photo_directory = "shyrla.com/folderblog/photos/"; is this wrong?

Angel, try uploading a new file with the next line in it:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
and name the file
info.php
that will help the people with more knowledge to know about what does your hosting provider supports.
I visited your site, and saw that the pictures are .jpg, so change the extension to
$file_extension = ".jpg";
also, you installed Folderblog in the folderblog directory, so the path should be just:
$photo_directory = "photos/";
hope it helps

Thanks, changing the directory to just"photos/" did the trick. At least I was finally able to see one of my pics, but the screen I got after I wrote: http://www.shyrla.com/folderblog/fb.php?p=post/
was full of error messages similar to this:
Warning: fopen(captions/Angel-MuteSwamBath01.txt): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/.bas/angelart/shyrla.com/folderblog/fb.php on line 284
Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/.bas/angelart/shyrla.com/folderblog/fb.php on line 285
Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/.bas/angelart/shyrla.com/folderblog/fb.php on line 286
Any ideas how to solve that? I also placed the info.php file as recomended in hope I can get this thing running
THanks Again!

Angel: hi, good to see it's going better.
You don't have any thumbnails in the thumbs directory, maybe as Sean said, those folders don't have all the permisions set.
If you don't know about the "chmod" command (neither do I), try downloading Filezilla, it's a freeware FTP program, easy to use, to do this:
Go to your folderblog folder, when in there, select comments, photos and thumbs, and for each one of them right click on the folder, then select Properties
and select all the options, in the text window the 777 number will appear, that's what is needed for the thumbnails to be automatically created.
any questions or if things where not clear let me know :) see ya

thanx KC, changing '.jpg' to '.JPG' worked for me...
Hi,
I am new to fotoblog and unfortunately experiencing some problems too.
Structur is this:
photoblog
|-- fb-data
|-- extensions
|-- photos
|-- thumbs
|-- comments
Folders photos, thumbs, and comments are set to 777.
File extension is set to .jpg, since this is what my pics have.
I have one photo in the photo folder which is displayed when fotoblog is started. Yet, the original photo is shown instead of the thumb. And I am getting these messages above:
Warning: imagejpeg() [function.imagejpeg]: Unable to open 'thumbs/verdi_in_duesseldorf002_kln.jpg' for writing in /home/peterssa/public_html/photoblog/fb.php on line 79
Warning: imagejpeg() [function.imagejpeg]: Unable to open 'thumbs/verdi_in_duesseldorf002_kln.jpg' for writing in /home/peterssa/public_html/photoblog/fb.php on line 79
Is my folder structure wrong? Anything else I haven't seen yet?
Regards,
Ayshe

I should add, that with fb-data I summarized all the php-files, it's NOT an extra folder.

And here's the URL of the mentioned installation. Sorry for the extra postings. :-)

OK, that thang doen't work, I trash it! Everything on the server is correkt, chmod is correct, structure too, but I am still getting this annoying message. And posting isn't working either.
Since the developer doesn't feel compelled to offer a bit more help (or a fix) I rather use another tool. There's more to get than this one.

Angel,
Dreamhost has an option to turn OFF the "Run PHP as CGI" feature. They say it's not recommended, but I've had no problems in running strictly PHP.
Hope this helps.
