forum bumping vs. highlighting(back to index)
The forum currently bumps replied-to posts to the top of the list. As of this evening, it also highlights threads which have had new activity since your last visit (you may need to leave and come back after 20 minutes for this to kick in).

I like the highlighting, so I think it will stay (how do you guys feel about the orange?). The question is: is bumping confusing? Or just redundant now that there is highlighting? Or should I leave both systems in place?

I think having both is perfect, as old threads that don't appear on the first page will be bumped to the top of the list on the main page if they get a new post, and you can see at a glance what's happened since you were last here.

What if the highlights were different colours? kinda like the firefox extension that adds coloured dots to new tabs so you don't (visually) lose your place?

why highlights? text is good, something like "new". a forum where i come lot has this. the newest threats are on top, and when something changes in them they keep their position and say "new". see it in action here http://www.theboombap.nl/theBoards/list.php?f=1

HiMY, what do you mean by different colors? There are only two categories for posts ("new since your last visit" and "not new since your last visit") — what would other colors represent?

Lydus, the highlighting is purely an aesthetic choice.

i get that, but i was also talking about threads that change and keep their position, so do not move to the top. only the new ones start their in my vision.

btw, the link above is not active, how would i make it so?

*off topic
this new layout is very nice and clean.

oh, and in my opinion the orange could be more orange, more like "hey you can't miss me".
cheers.

Donald,

I just experienced the need for multi coloured highlighting...

How about keep the orange as is.

Add another highlight colour for Orange highlight qualifying threads that include posts I, the websurfer/visitor, has made.

I sometimes forget which thread I am following, though I read all of them eventually. Often I wanna simply 'peek' in and see if something I said has been commented on.

I know this has little to do with the meat and potatoes of folderblog --the photoblog code --, it does though fall into the area of folderblg --the photoblog code's community, of which this new forum is the heart and soul of.

To see where I get my yearnings for crayolaying the threads, here it is, from Dunstan Orchard's blog:

A visual Guide to navigating blog comments:

and

Of course, if I had my druthers, this entire comment colour system would exist all over the net, perhaps one day even infiltrating folderblog's comment system as well {:-p/ .

HiMY, I've added a blue tab to threads you've posted in (starting today).
